There are many ways to acknowledge the Maori New Year and observe the rising of Matariki. We are excited to announce that Naseby is the host of this year’s Maniototo celebrations and a host of activities have been organised for the community.
Friday 24 June 2022: Naseby Town Hall – Leven Street, Naseby

- Karakia & Introduction to the Matariki Celebrations
- Korero on Matariki & its place in Te Ao Maori
- Kapa Haka Performance
3pm – 5pm: Town Hall
- Karakia Kai
- Starlab Sessions – Tuhura Otago Museum Science Engagement Team
- Tabletop & Science activities
- Weaving display
- Remembrance Stars
- Tiaki Maniototo native planting display
- Interactive viewing of Ka Huru Manu – Ngai Tahu’s atlas of the Te Wai Pounamu (South Island)
5pm: Hikoi to Naseby Domain
5.30 – 6.30pm: Naseby Domain
- Hangi
- Community night sky telescope viewing
- Science activities
Entry to activities by koha/donation with funds being gathered for future Matariki events.
